Chris Atkinson grew up in Sparta, NJ and played his youth hockey for the New Jersey Devils Youth organization. Following his Bantam year, Atkinson was recruited to the US National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan along with other top prospects across the United States. While playing for the US-NTDP, Chris was played a pivotal role in winning the prestigious IIHF U-18 tournament for Team USA. Atkinson was recruited to Vermont University following his play for the US-NTDP. While at Vermont, Chris and the Catamounts were Northeast Regional Champions and advanced to the Frozen Four in 2009. Soon after university life, Atkinson played professionally with his brother, Mike Atkinson, in the FHL and together they secured a championship for the Danbury Whalers. Chris currently gives back to the New Jersey hockey community and is coach with the New Jersey Devils Youth organization.
